A discussion on art and decolonialization in Guatemala with activist artist Maya K'iche Lucia Ixchiu in Montreal this week. The meeting will address the socio-political context of Guatemala and the challenges of making artistic interventions with a decolonial approach. The conversation will be followed by a Maya K'iche ritual.
Born in Totonicapán Guatemala, Lucia Ixchíu is a Mayan indigenous K'iche woman, architect, cultural manager, journalist and diverse feminist. She is one of the co-founders of the Festivales solidarios collective, which mobilizes on issues related to the defence of the environment and Mother Earth and the preservation of historical memory through art, culture and public events.
